BLACK SUNDAY IN NIGERIA - DANA AIRLINES CRASHES KILLING ALL 169 PASSENGERS ONBOARD

A commercial plane belonging to Dana Airlines has just crashed at the Iju/Ishaga area of Lagos a few minutes ago. The plane was carrying 152 passengers and was coming from Abuja. Eye witnesses say the plane crashed into houses and human beings are burning at the scene of the crash.

Update: NCAA has just confirmed that there were no survivors. Such a sad day for Nigeria!
Also heard that the plane that crashed today was the same plane that had landing gear problem in Uyo a couple of weeks back. It gave signs, but the airline didn't do anything about it.

The Dana Air MC Donnell Douglas MD 83, which crashed in Iju-Ishaga has had a history of mechanical problems even before original owners, US-based Alaska Airlines, sold it to Dana Airlines on February 17, 2009.

The Aviation Safety Network, an exclusive service of the Air Safety Foundation (ASF), in a statement on Monday, revealed that the ill-fated aircraft was acquired by Alaska Airline in November 13, 1990.

Twelve years later, on November 4, 2002, the aircraft developed mechanical faults and had an emergency diversion due to smoke in the cabin area, which engineers said was because light ballast had over heated.
On August 20, 2006, passengers had to be evacuated after landing at Long Beach, California, due to a chaffed wire bundle that discharged and produced smoke in the cabin area again. Subsequently, Alaska Airlines, on August 21, parked the aircraft until September 11 2008 when it carried out maintenance work on it. Five months after repairs where concluded, on February 2009, Alaska Airlines sold the aircraft, as 5N-RAM, to Dana Airlines.

See, Nigeria is a dumping ground. Americans reject the plane, Indians buy it and bring it to Nigeria, playing with people's lives. Hope some people are arrested for this. Continue reading...

This year, unconfirmed sources at the airline have revealed that the plane has experienced minor faults twice.
On May 23, after passengers had boarded the aircraft, it was allegedly delayed from take-off at the Lagos airport as mechanics discovered some faults and changed the hydraulic fluid under the left side under carriage tyre mechanism.

When Dana Airlines was contacted for their reaction, an official of the carrier, who did not want his name published, said that an official statement would be issued by the company.

The MD-83 was manufactured in 1983, announced go-ahead on January 31, 1983 and had first flight on December 17, 1984. It was a longer range development of the basic MD-81/82 with higher weights, more powerful engines, increased fuel capacity and longer range.  It was equipped with slightly more powerful 21,000 1bf Pratt and Whitney JT8D-219s as standard.

The aircraft also had higher operating weights with MTOW increased to 160,000 1b and MLW to 139,500 1b. Typical range for the MD-83 with 155 passengers in around 2,504 nautical miles (4,637km).

SNEAK PEEK - 2012'S Best of Spring

TITS BITS FROM OUR BEST OF SPRING.....  HAPPY VIEWING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of HOS favorite trends this year is the SHEER look, and up until now it has successfully worn the heart of many even at the recently concluded thisday arise fashion week 2012 the pieces came out strongest and everyone loved the look.Classy, but stylish, lightweight and entirely perfect for spring.

However Considering the layers of prints that have been impressed upon our eyes by fashion houses lately, one could be forgiven for approaching the HOS Spring campaign cautiously, with one lid squinted shut in anticipation of another visual overload of color, tropical fauna, or optical illusion. But that would have been a mistake, because HOS vision for spring was entirely different, PURPOSELY SOFT. Her parade of romantic floral dresses, spandex drapes with waist cinching inner belts are fluid, relatively quiet, and kind of glamorous. To the floor and cut Moroccan style, the sweeping frocks were done in pretty plain silks mixed with rich border prints with varied degrees of embellishment which brought the looks closer to evening. There really was nothing tricky or overtly aggressive about these clothes, which a) was refreshing, and b) may explain why HOS chose to throw in some BIKER-sharp jackets that didn’t toughen up the aesthetic too much, but simply kept it from going too gently into that good night. Rendered in solid ethnic fabrics with opulent rhinestone beads and sequins, the jackets also integrated perfectly into the collection. A few minis in a unique crepe-and-lace combination are apparent also and present a classy cocktail look for spring. Less chunky accessories is all you  need to take the romance to the next level
If you aren’t convinced yet that this collection is perfect for spring, and well worth the money then I don’t know what will convince you! Be sure to check out the rest of HOS collection at- www.haute-hos.com

HOS ROCKS LONDON FASHION WEEK

Arriving London on the 16th of February with no clue on what to expect at the biggest fashion fiesta in my sojourn into the world of fashion. It was certainly  a childhood dream coming to reality im gonna be showing my designs alongside the likes of Vivienne westwood (i adore her), Paul smith, Burberry etc with thesame buyers looking out for designs sketched on my humble moodboard. UNBELIEVABLE.!!!!!
With Nerves raging, heart pounding and butterflies dancing in my belly i galantly arrived at the Westbury Hotel @ the Conduit street off Newbond street W1. I could hardly keep my eyes off the gorgeous dresses sprawling out of the glass displays along the long row of upscale shops on London's most expensive street and hoping someday HOS could be sighted here too.
I walked into the hotel like a typical Nigerian with my confidence level at a record all-time-high although the thoughts in my head were far from the air oozing around me. I was greeted by Mr Mahogany himself Sola Oyebade who showed me to my stand and asked me to get my dresses out for inspection and fitting. Shortly after that i was called in to the foyer to familiarize myself with the team of stylists, models, hair & makeup artists etc. The organisers adhered strictly to timing and i must give credit to them for that beacuse at exactly 2pm i was called upon to present my cloths to the models for fitting. At this point i was confident that the show would be a BANG..!!!! EVERY SINGLE DRESS FIT TO EVERY STITCH.... Strangely the model i thought wouldn't look good in  my cloths (Nasai) ended being my superstar of the night.

LET THE SHOW BEGIN..!!!!!

At exactly 8pm the show started with my dear friends and well wishwishers well positioned in the front row. I must say a big hearthfelt Thanks to Ehi & Kassim Osagie, Osato Anegbode, Amenze Olotu, Stacey Otokpa, Nike, Jiba, Ada, Funlola, Boaediccea and the entire Ghanian delegation. I LOVE YOU ALL..!!!!!!!!!!!!

Need not say much, I'll let you look at the pictures below to conclude on our much anticipated outing...

Thanks for believing in me.

BIOGRAPHY - The Lady behind the brand

Fashion Designer Jennifer Adighije has become the epitome of classic fashion in Nigeria. With 2 product lines HOS - upscale luxury label and Abada couture - African prints; makes us wonder who the lady behind the label really is.

Born on April 15th, 1982, in Lagos Nigeria, coming from a long way in days of sharing a bedroom with two of her siblings and growing up in a middle-class Nigerian family, Jennifer had always been studious at school with a flare for handi-craft.

Jennifer’s fashion sense was apparent at an early age when she would purchase expensive fabrics with her pocket money and cut out patterns for her numerous dolls.

After studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Nigeria she proceeded to study a masters degree in telecommunications at the prestigious University of London where her sojourn into the fashion business started.  She attended school lectures till 3pm and would work afterwards at a high street clothing store as a sales attendant. She then rose to become the store supervisor which ultimately led to the skills she posseses today in the fashion business.
After her masters degree Jennifer returned to Lagos in 2008 and she founded House of Silk which was initially a fabric retail company which later grew into a bespoke dress making brand. She choose the name ‘House of Silk’ because of her love for sheer flowy-breezy fabrics and the classy immaculate sense of style in flexibility when such fabrics are worn. Jennifer not only had an innovative mind, but she also knew that packaging and presentation were of utmost importance -- something she didn't need to learn while studying for her engineering degrees.

It is Jennifer's innovativeness, among many other traits of the model businesswoman that has made her the founder, designer and chairman of the multi-million naira company. She also recently launched the beauty arm of the business in a sophisticated beauty studio and Nail spa making it the one-stop destination for fashion and beauty routines all under one roof i.e. the complete makeover shop. Not only is she among the few Nigerian fashion designers to have multiple stores across the country, but she is the first to sell the whole lifestyle image that consumers flock to worldwide. Jennifer sells much more than clothes and beauty routines; she sells a lifestyle image of sophistication, class and lifestyle.

SCENE & BE SEEN - HOS Charity Sale

It was a day to remember @ Amber lounge when HOS unveiled the 2012 charity collection. The dresses were arranged on 4 racks sprawling through the brightly lit lounge in a manner capturing the fantasies of shoppers making their way though the busy Silverbird Mall.
Shoppers started walking though the open doors about 2pm and they kept coming one after the other as cloths kept flying off the racks. The climax of the day was when the Mic Goddess Tiwa Savage walked in about 7pm in company of my deraest friend Denrenle and the Tempo of the party changed drastically. She went staright to the bandstand and did several songs incl her hit singles Kelele Love, which left the entire crowd on dancing to the ground. All in all it was a Day to remember for us all and i sincerely appreciate my friends who cam efrom far and wide...I LOVE YOU LOADS..Here is to a Fabulous 2012..XOXO
